A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS ACKNOWLEDGING LEADERSHIP
STEPHENVILLE CLASS OF 2015 AS A PROMOTER FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION
OF A MULTI -PURPOSE FACILITY IN THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE; AND CREATING THE "MULTI-
PURPOSE CENTER ADVISORY TEAM" TO PARTICIPATE WITH STEPHENVILLE CITY COUNCIL AND
CITY STAFF IN PROVIDING NECESSARY AND EFFECTIVE PROMOTION OF A MULTI -PURPOSE
FACILITY
Whereas, Leadership Stephenville is a program sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce which
challenges its participants to make a difference in the community, to make a positive
contribution to our quality of life, and to be prepared to become the leaders of
tomorrow; and
Whereas, Leadership Stephenville, Class of 2015, desires to promote and advance the
development and construction of a multi -purpose facility for Stephenville and Erath
County area residents in order to enhance the recreational, social, educational and
cultural opportunities for young, and not so young.; and
Whereas, such a well -planned facility in a community of our size will promote a healthy, livable
community with opportunities for physical activity and education, as well as personal
[A, and cultural enrichment; and
1 1 Whereas, the effort will seek to centralize our current City Library, Recreation Center and Senior
fff Citizen Center in a single facility with flexible use space and replace obsolete facilities
with modern facilities. Plus, consider inclusion of common area space for events, as
well as office space for community non-profit organizations; and
Whereas, the facility will offer residents access to current technologies and consider physical
expansion opportunities so that it will serve succeeding generations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS:
1. To establish "Leadership Stephenville 2015" as a formal Advisory Committee to the
Stephenville City Council, known as the "Multi -Purpose Center Advisory Team". The team
will engage the community in dialogue regarding the future direction of programs,
formulate options to address facility needs and funding sources, and present
recommendations to the city boards and council.
2. The class, acting as an advisory team to the city staff, will participate in the following:
a. Define, with the community, the most modern, most flexible and most economically
feasible facility that will support current and projected needs of the area while
capturing the character, identity, quality and spirit that we know Stephenville to be;
b. Work in partnership to develop a concept design and business plan to support a
facility that can be efficiently and effectively utilized for community -wide programs
and events;

c. Facilitate activities beyond the Leadership Stephenville class schedule, including
support of long-term marketing to advocate and educate the public on the benefits of
a multi -purpose community center; and
d. Investigate and pursue funding sources to secure commitments toward the financial
requirements for construction, including financial and program partnerships with
private and public providers to allow current and future citizens.
