The City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, convened in special session on January 27, 1989 at 5:30 p.m. i n the Counci 1 Chambers of Ci ty Hal 1 , 354 N. Belknap, with the meeting being open to the public and notice of said meeting, giving the date, time, place and subject thereof, having been posted as prescribed by Article 6252-17, Section 3A, V.T.C.S. , with the following members present, to wit: Mayor Pro Tem: Allen Horne Councilmembers: Bob Self Vicki L. Truss Maxine Dameron Joel M. Hillin .Siivx BoST/C Absent: Councilmembers Helen Martin, Jim McSwain and lim Beebe Others Attending: Kurt Ackermann City Administrator Joyce Pemberton City Secretary Charlene Young Director of Finance Joseph Chandler City Attorney Randy Thomas Assistant City Attorney Mayor Pro Tem Allen Horne called the meeting to order and declared a quorum pre- sent. Mayor Pro Tem Allen Horne stated the purpose of this meeting is to canvass the returns of the election held on Saturday, January 21, 1988, for the election of a mayor and the Municipal Civil Service (Police Dept. Only) . 89-01-017: Councilmember Maxine Dameron made the motion that in lieu of canvassing the returns the City Council accept the results of the Recount Committee. Seconded by Councilmember Bob Self, the motion carried UNANIMOUSLY by a roll call vote of those members present. RECOUNT OF VOTES CAST IN MAYOR'S RACE: Norman Craig 33 George Swearingen 906 Allen Horne 890 Write-In Votes 5 Disallowed Ballots 2 Total Votes Cast 1,836 PROPOSITION: MUNICIPAL CIVIL SERVICE For 958 Against 611 89-01-018: RESOLUTION DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CITY SPECIAL ELECTION. Councilmember Bob Self made the motion, seconded by Councilmember Maxine Dameron, to approve a RESOLUTION that said election was duly called; that notice of said election was given in accordance with law, and that said election was held in accordance with law, and that GEORGE SWEARINGEN was duly elected Mayor for an unexpired term. Said above-named party is hereby declared duly elected to said respective office subject to the taking of the oath of office as provided by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Stephenville, Texas. 172 Said above proposition of adoption of Municipal Civil Service, appli- cable only to the Stephenville Police Department, is hereby declared approved. PASSED AND APPROVED this the 27th day of January, 1989.
