A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE
TRANSFER OF RETIRED K-9 OFFICER "BUKY"TO OFFICER GARY ROBERTS.
WHEREAS, Texas Government Code Section 614.212 authorizes the governing body of a
municipality to enter into a contract with a person for the transfer of a law enforcement dog that has
been determined by the Chief of Police to be suitable for transfer and surplus to the needs of the
department because the dog is at the end of its working life; and
WHEREAS,Stephenville Chief of Police Dan M. Harris,Jr. has, after consultation with the animal's
veterinarian, handlers, and other caretakers, determined K-9 Officer "Buky" is eligible for retirement,
suitable for transfer, and surplus to the needs of the Stephenville Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Officer Gary Roberts is a peace officer and is capable of humanely caring for "Buky";
and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the transfer of K-9 Officer "Buky" is in the best
interest of the animal and of the health, safety, and welfare of the City.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE,TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to negotiate and execute an agreement for the
_ transfer of retired K-9 Officer "Buky" to Officer Gary Roberts without charge, subject to final review by
the City Attorney.
SECTION 2.
That it is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this resolution is passed is
open to the public and that public notice of the time, place, and purpose of said meeting was given as
required by law.
PASSED AND APPROVED this the 2nd day of March, 2021.
